Hi, I'm Paula.
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, a psychotherapist in private practice.
I have been working for years with those who suffer from disordered eating, food obsession, exercise compulsion, internalized weight stigma and body hatred.
I work mainly with adults, members of the LGTBQIA+ community, young people, couples, and anyone hoping to make some truly lasting changes.
I am proud to call myself a body justice activist and teach courses for professionals and at George Washington University about the myths of the U.S.'s measures of health, our culture's thin idealism, and society's relentless oppression of large bodies.
I treat clients with a Body Justice-focused, weight neutral, anti-diet approach.
I am a member of The International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals, the National Association of Social Workers and the Association of Social Work Boards.
I am an Internal Family Systems informed practitioner.
San Francisco State University, Bachelors in Psychology
Hunter College School of Social Work, Masters in Social Work
Registered Yoga Teacher, 2003
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, 2011
After being a yoga teacher and eating disorders recovery advocate in DC for over a decade, I completed a Master's Degree in Social Work in New York City. I then moved back to Washington DC where I worked as an addictions counselor in an Outpatient Substance Abuse clinic, continuing to teach group & private yoga sessions all over the DC area, and providing workshops on Yoga & Healing Body Hate. I received my license to practice privately in 2013. I am also a professor at George Washington University, teaching a course on body justice called Weight & Society.
